Victoria Cross winner Pun is no more

KATHMANDU, APR 21 -Tul Bahadur Pun, 89, who won a Victoria Cross (the highest military decoration in the UK’s armed forces) for his heroism while fighting the Japanese, breathed his last on Wednesday night.

Pun's last ritual will be performed in the banks of Kali Gandaki River on Friday following the arrival of his sons and daughters from Britain.

Pun breathed his last at his hometown in Belkhola VDC-9, Tiplyang.

Pun was born on born March 23, 1923 in Myagdi district.

According to his son Bikash Pun, Tul Bahadur returned to his hometown in February as per his wish to live his remaining life in Nepal.

Pun is survived by his wife, three sons and eight daughters.Pun has been awarded 10 other medals, including the Burma Star.

Nepali student bags (IGNOU) Gold Medal

KATHMANDU, APR 09 -

A Nepali student Bishwa Raj Bajracharya has bagged the Indira Gandhi National Open University Gold (IGNOU) Medal in Post-Graduate Diploma in Financial Management this year. He is the seventh gold medalist to receive the medal on behalf of Nepal since its establishment in 1985. Spread over 40 countries, around 3.5 million students are currently studying in the university.

South Korea to hire 7,100 Nepalis next Fiscal Year

KATHMANDU, MAR 28 -
South Korea, one of the best labour markets for Nepali 
outbound workers, is hiring 7,100 Nepali individuals next fiscal year under its Employment Permit System (EPS). It is hiring such a huge number of Nepali workers for the first time after the government demanded to increase the quota for Nepal.

The government has already held discussions with Human Resource Development (HRD), South Korea, and fixed the date for conducting Korean Language Test (KLT) and publishing results. The Department of Foreign Employment has stated that it will start preparations for the exam within two weeks.

Chandra Man Shrestha, acting director general of the department, said preparations are underway for calling for application for the exam on May 2-4, 2011. He said the test is scheduled on July 22 and 23, as participation this year is expected to increase compared to last year. Results will be published on Aug. 23.

In August last year, witnessing a huge response from youths, the government had requested South Korea to increase the quota for Nepal.

Last year, more than 40,000 individuals had applied for the language test for 4,000 EPS jobs. “The quota has been increased this year because of the good reputation of Nepalis working in South Korea,” said Shrestha. He added that chances of further increment of the quota in future are high.

Application fee for the exam has been increased by US$ 9 in order to meet increasing expanses and make the exam advanced. Now, aspirants will have to pay US$ 26 to apply for the exam. Earlier, the fee was US$ 17.

The government is considering entrusting the job of conducting the exam to Private and Boarding School’s Organisation Nepal (PABSON) this year, as last year’s experience with the Tribhuwan University was not so encouraging, according to the department. So far, a total of 6,500 individuals have left the country for EPS job. In the first phase, 6,800 individuals’ names were included in the roster list, of which 5,800 have already reached South Korea.

“Some 50-60 individuals of the first phase are remaining,” said Mahesh Acharya, chief of the EPS Nepal Office. He said names of around 100 aspirants were removed from the roster list, while some of them changed thir mind. In the second phase last year, a total of 4,096 aspirants had passed the language test. Of them, some 700 have already left for South Korea.

Under the EPS, Korea hires workers from 15 developing countries each year and Nepal is eligible to send workers in five sectors—agriculture, fishery, construction, manufacturing and services. Nepali workers earn Rs 70,000 a month on an average.

Korea hires workers from Nepal, Vietnam, Mongolia, Thailand, China, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan and East Timor under the EPS introduced in 2004. Gurkha who defeated 12 Taliban attack gets Bravery medal

A Gurkha soldier who single-handedly fought off an attack on his base by up to 12 Taliban insurgents has been awarded Britain's second highest medal for bravery.

    32 years old sergeant Dip Prasad pun of myagdi district of Nepal has been awarded by Gallantry Cross. Heroic Sergeant  Pun was left guarding a key military position near Nahr-e Saraj in the war-torn province of Helmand in Afghanistan on September 17 when he came under fire.

The Sergeant pun quickly manned a 7.62mm mounted machine gun positioned on the roof of a nearby building in a bid to fend off his attackers.

But he soon discovered he could not lower the gun enough to take aim at the group of Taliban fighters.

So he removed the heavy 30lb weapon from its tripod and held it himself.

He fought the group of attackers for 15 minutes by firing up to 750 rounds a minute with the large machine gun, before reinforcements arrived. Sgt Pun is believed to have killed three and wounded several others in his courageous stand.

Kailesh kher to perform in Nepal

Kailesh kher to perform in Nepal : Indian singing sensation  kailesh  kher Will be performing in Nepal on Nepali new year eve. The singer will be performing at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza, according to Samden Sherpa, director of JPR Events, the agency that’s bringing the singer and who previously brought Bryan Adam in Nepal. It is confirmed — Kailash Kher is coming for an event. He will come to Nepal with his 12 band member which will arrive in Nepal at 12 April.

Sherpa also announced Nepal could be one of the destinations for the Temptation Reloaded Tour led by Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra in May.

“It has been principally agreed upon; Khan’s agent will be giving the date in seven days,” he informed.

Khagendra Thapa Magar:- world smallest man

A Nepalese Boy Khagendra Thapa Magar  (born October 14, 1992), son of Rup Bahadur and Dhana Maya Thapa Magar measured in at 26.4 inches is officially declared as the world's shortest man by Guinness record officials displacing the former record holder, Edward Nino Hernandez of Colombia, who measures 27 inches. 

Cheers went up when Magar was handed a world record certificate by Guinness official Marco Frigatti. The ceremony was held in a hotel in Pokhara.

"I can confirm that as of today Khagendra Thapa Magar is officially the shortest man in the world," Frigatti announced as he handed over the certificate.

Magar's family has campaigned for years to get him the crown, but earlier requests to Guinness were rejected because of the possibility he might grow.

RIP Diamond Shamsher Rana :-This is a huge loss for Nepali literature

The writer,DIAMOND SHAMSHER RANA,One  of the great novelist:  writer of White tiger(seto bagh), Basanti and Anita based on history. is no more. He died at the Norvic International Hospital in Thapathali on Friday evening. He was 94.


Due to a  chronic diabetic, Rana was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital after he fell unconscious on Tuesday. He was suffering from multiple problems including renal failure. He breathed his last at around 6:30 pm this evening.


Diamond Shumshere Rana is a one of the Great  novelists of Nepal. His writing career began in the late 1940s, during the autocratic Rana regime, a time when writers and poets were not allowed to publish their work.
 Death of Diamond shamsher Rana is  a huge loss for Nepali literature. His contribution towards Nepali literature. in unforgetable...... May his soul Rest in peace

Youngest Singer: 3 Year-Old Atithi Gautam set world record

Atithi recently gave a live performance, singing three songs from her album.

Orbit Publishers, Atithi's father's company and Ambar Gurung, a Nepalese musician, released the album.

Her elder sister Usna, and her father, Uddhav, who is a Nepali folk singer, accompanied her at the ceremony.

Although her age did not deter Atithi from cutting the solo album, the composer said it was difficult to work with the child on account of her age.

The Sugauli Treaty :- Pain of Nepal

The Sugauli Treaty (also spelled Segowlee and Segqulee) was signed on December 2, 1815 and ratified by March 4, 1816, between the British East India Company and Nepal, which was a kingdom during that era. This ended the second British invasion of the Himalayan kingdom during the Anglo-Nepalese War (1814-1816). The signatory for Nepal was Raj Guru Gajaraj Mishra aided by Chandra Sekher Upadhyaya and the signatory for the Company was Lieutenant-Colonel Paris Bradshaw. The treaty called for territorial concessions in which parts of Nepal will be given to British India, the establishment of a British representative in Kathmandu, and allowed Britain to recruit Gurkhas for military service. Nepal also lost the right to deploy any American or European employee in its service (earlier several French commanders had been deployed to train the Nepali army).

Under the treaty, about one-third of Nepalese territory was lost, including Sikkim (whose Chogyals supported Britain in the Anglo-Nepalese War); territory to west of the Kali River like Kumaon (present Indian state of Uttarakhand), Garhwal (present Indian state of Uttarakhand); some territories to the west of the Sutlej River like Kangra (present day Himachal Pradesh); and much of the Terai Region. Some of the Terai Region was restored to Nepal in 1816 under a revision of the treaty and more territory was returned in 1865 to thank Nepal for helping to suppress the Indian rebellion of 1857.

Kalapani belongs to Nepal - A brief history of Kalapani

The North-Western Border of Nepal Background:  The Treaty of Sugauli of 4 March 1816 is the basis to delineate and demarcate the western/north-western border of Nepal, even though the Boundary Treaty of 1 November 1860 is implied specially to the south-western portion, as the restoration of Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur districts as new territory (Naya Muluk).  According to the Treaty of Sugauli, river Kali is the western boundary of Nepal with India.  The boundary river, Kali is delimitated by Article 5 of the treaty.  It says “the Rajas of Nepal renounces for himself, his heirs, and successors, all claim to or connection with the countries lying to the west of the river Kali and engages never to have any concern with those countries or the inhabitants thereof.”  So the place, where the river Kali is originated is the north-western corner border limit of Nepal with India and China as tri-junction.

Adventurous Honey Hunting in Nepal!!!

 Nepal, honey hunting has been practiced for thousands of years and is a vital part of the Nepali culture. These days, travelers are also able to join honey hunting expeditions and experience this adventure and tradition for themselves. Some villagers in Nepal depend on honey hunting for their livelihood.

Bees construct their hives on the cliffs of the country’s foothills, and watching the honey hunters at work is a sight to be seen. Due to the location of the bee hives, honey hunters make use of rope ladders and baskets to get to the combs after the bees have been flushed out with smoke by lighting a fire underneath the hives. Honey harvesting usually takes place twice a year, when honey hunters get together and head into the Himalayas to take on this massive task. To harvest one colony takes the honey hunters two to three hours depending on the location of the hive and its size.

 There are a number of tour operators that offer visitors honey hunting tours, taking them to various locations to witness the entire harvesting procedure. The most popular honey hunting destinations are located in Bhujung, Nai Chi, Pasgaon, Naya Gaun, Ludhi and Dare. Tourists will be amazed at the speed and courage of the honey hunters, who hang from the cliffs to earn a living, and marvel at the ancient techniques that are still in use today.
